Last month, we predicted that baby robots might be on their way after Kickstarter users successfully funded the BrickPi project. We never expected them to be quite this cute, though.
RAPIRO (RAspberry PI RObot)”RAPIRO is an affordable, customizable, easy to build robot run on Arduino software. This “Humanoid Robot Kit” was built from the ground up to work in tandem with the Raspberry Pi, and with its 12 servos, the robot can walk, grab small objects, and turn its head and waist.
This robot isn’t just a fun toy, though. The developer, Shota Ishiwatari, has also listed other uses for it; for example, you can connect a Wi-Fi device to RAPIRO and receive Facebook, Twitter, or email notifications. And if you attach a camera module, RAPIRO could serve as the cutest piece of security equipment in your home. The burglars will never suspect a thing.
If the (awesome) design of the Arduino-controlled robot isn’t quite your style, don’t worry; the team behind RAPIRO plans to publish 3D models of the kit online and allow you to customize your bot with 3D-printed parts.
The campaign exceeded its £20,000 goal (almost $31,000 US) shortly after it launched, but there’s still plenty of time to contribute to the Kickstarter if you’d like to secure your own RAPIRO kit.
