Though it isn’t quite a 3D latte cat (or a grumpy variant thereof), this Barista Bot churns out creations that are more impressive than what you can expect to get from your local chain coffee house.
A collaborative project by Hypersonic, RockPaperRobot, Jamie Zigelbaum, and Kyle McDonald, the Barista Bot came out of a desire to make something cooler on a latte than your average leaf pattern. I mean, c’mon, there’s only so many times you can see vegetation on your foam milk before you get bored, right?
Did we mention that the Barista Bot can draw your portrait on a latte? It can take snapshots of you with a webcam and then use that data to draw a face in the foam milk. The bot took about four weeks to build, and the results are…not bad. At least, it’s not bad if you’re okay with the fact the Barista Bot may make you look like something a nightmare-stricken Picasso may have created.
Barista Bot doesn’t actually make the coffee—a human still has to do that part. And it doesn’t look like there are any plans to mass-market the Barista Bots just yet, so college students can breathe a sigh of relief. Your jobs will not be stolen.
Yet.
