As of today, Thursday May 1st, 2015, Fantem’s Oomi connected-home security and management system has acquired a new component for detecting entry via your home’s windows and doors. The company has also partnered with Nettalk for an optional remote monitoring and emergency service.
The Oomi system revolves around a small wireless uber-hub, the Oomi Cube, which by itself provides 8 different sensors and a camera. A dedicated 7-inch touch tablet monitors and controls the Cube and add-on components, or accessories in Oomi-speak. The first accessory was an independent 6-sensor array; the second, the co-subject of today’s announcement, is a door/window sensor to give early warning when someone tries to enter (or exit) your domicile. Oomi accessories handily link up with the Cube via NFC communications.
The Oomi system is local and independent of the Internet by default, but will now be remotely accessible via Nettalks’ communications infrastructure as a $60 a year option. The service will include video/audio monitoring, phone call alerts, as well as direct audio to anyone in the home, and connections to emergency services if you need them.
An indie alternative to smartphone-controlled systems, Fantem’s Oomi can be researched further at Oomi’s Web site, Indiegogo or via TechHive’s preview.
