LG is planning to launch a smart speaker with Google Assistant built-in later in 2018.
The speaker was mentioned by Scott Huffman, vice president of engineering for Google Assistant, while he was on stage at LG’s CES press conference.
“With the LG ThinQ speaker and Google Assistant, you can get hands-free help around your home,” he said.
A launch date wasn’t announced and Huffman didn’t reveal anything else about the speaker, but it doesn’t look too different from the growing number of smart speakers already available that feature Google Assistant.
ThinQ is LG’s new branding for all of its smart home products, so there’s a good chance the speaker will tie in particularly well with LG devices. If you have any LG products around the home, it might be worth waiting to see what the new speaker can do.
LG’s ThinQ TV, for example, also packs Google Assistant but has additional access via ThinQ to a number of LG-provided video search services and smart home integrations.
