You know what’s even better than an Alexa-powered smart speaker? One that comes with a screen and all sorts of additional smart home controls—especially when it’s on a deep discount. Amazon is selling its excellent Echo Show 8 for $100. That’s the all-time low and better than the usual $130.
We reviewed the second-generation Echo Show 8 in June, giving it four out of five stars, and an Editors’ Choice Award. “The Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) is a great smart display for not a lot of money that’s useful for video calls, home security, entertainment, and—above all—smart home control,” we said.
The Echo Show 8 features an eight-inch display with 1280-by-800 resolution. We said the display was bright and crisp with “good off-axis viewing.” It also has a 13 megapixel camera.
What’s really great about a smart display, however, is what it can do. The Echo Show 8 packs an occupancy sensor to control smart home gear such as lights when it detects someone in the room. It can support video calls with up to 7 different people, and of course it has Alexa for all your important web queries, traffic and weather information, and the aforementioned smart home control.
On top of all that it can even do video, with support for a variety of premium streaming services including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Spotify.
The Echo Show 8 is always a solid choice if you prefer Amazon’s ecosystem over Google’s or Apple’s HomeKit. At this price, it’s a great choice.
