5/14 Hot Pic: "In Dew Time" by Greg Gustafson, Cocoa, Florida

Greg writes: "I saw this just as I was about to leave for work. I noticed the sun coming through this spider's web, covered in dew, and just had to go back and get my camera to get a shot of it."

5/21 Hot Pic: "51 Mercury" by Ron Lashley, Flora Vista, New Mexico

Ron writes: "I took this at a local car show. I used a Sony SLT-A55 DSLR camera and shot it at a very low angle, with the camera on the pavement while looking at the flip-out LCD screen. I use the RAW format to get a larger tonal range."

5/28 Hot Pic: "Destination" by Gerald J. Bloniarz, Phoenix, Arizona

Gerald says: "There seemed to be an inordinate number of bees circulating around this Mexican Bird of Paradise. My objective was to capture one head-on near the flower, but afterwards I discovered I had captured this shot of one headed straight for its destination and liked it the best."

Gerald captured this photo using a tripod-mounted Nikon D 70 with a 60mm macro lens.

5/7 runner-up: "Amy" by Alistair Cowin, Worcester, England

Alistair captured this photo with a Canon EOS 7D using an off-camera flash.

5/14 runner-up: "Reflections" by Eric Hoar, Springvale, Maine

Eric writes: "There has been precious little snow here in southern Maine this winter, so the challenge has been to take interesting winter pictures without the white stuff. This image is a late-afternoon reflection of birch trees and scrub oaks on the Mousam River in Sanford, Maine."

Eric used a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8.

5/21 runner-up: "Utility Pole" by Eric Hoar, Springvale, Maine

Eric writes: "This is an image of a reflection in a puddle, taken about an hour before sunset. I flipped the image upside down, adjusted the brightness and contrast, cleaned up some noise, and applied a Dry Brush filter."

Eric used a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8.

5/28 runner-up: "First Sign of Spring" by Brent Baldauf, Butler, Pennsylvania

Apparently, it's bee season--judging from the many buzz-themed submissions this week. Brent says that he shot this photo beside his home's driveway using a Nikon D80 and a 35mm lens.
