Bob says: "This is a photograph of an elusive desert cactus flower called the Argentine Giant, which blossoms in early spring in the evening and lives for only one day. It is the official flower of Arizona. I used a Canon XSI without a flash."

Everett says: "It was about dusk. The sun came through the trees and hit the blossoms just right, so they glowed. I cropped a bit, and the rest was good fortune. I shot it with a sort-of-old-school Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ15."
