Deals of the Week

This week's deals include a powerful Canon point-and-shoot camera and the Nintendo Wii console.

Canon PowerShot S90 Digital Camera, $359

The Canon PowerShot S90 is an advanced point-and-shoot camera that can fit inside a shirt pocket. Dell has it on sale for $359--$40 off the usual price tag.

We like the 10-megapixel PowerShot S90 because it performs well in areas where other point-and-shoots usually fall flat. It shoots in RAW mode, has aperture and shutter priority modes, and can handle just about any lighting situation.

Aliph Jawbone Icon 'The Thinker' Bluetooth Headset, $72

Aliph is known for making ultrasleek Bluetooth headsets, and the company's newest series, the Jawbone Icon line, includes its most attractive models yet. has one of them--"The Thinker," in black--on sale for $72. The Icons are usually priced at $100.

The Jawbone Icon is smaller than previous models and has a glitzier array of colors and designs. Improvements from the older models include an on/off switch and a large "talk" button on one end. Each Icon offers Aliph's noise-cancellation technology and employs voice to state Caller ID information and how much battery time you have left.

Sony Walkman NWZ-S544 8GB MP3 Player, $70

If you want to return to your portable music roots without the hassle of mixtapes, or if you just need a new MP3 player, Sony's deal on the 8GB NWZ-S544 may be just the thing for you. Part of the S-series, the NWZ-S544 normally retails for $100 to $110 but is currently on sale for just $70. We reviewed an earlier model, the NWZ-S738F, and found that it upheld the brand's reputation for top-notch sound quality.

Wirefly is offering select new AT&T cell phones for free with the activation of a new two-year contract, sweetening the deal with a $40 bill credit. Among the eligible choices are the Samsung Solstice SGH-a887 and the Motorola Karma QA1 (shown). The Karma QA1, designed for the social networking crowd, provides easy access to mobile media sites, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a lightweight design.

Nintendo Wii Console With Wii Sports and a Bonus Game, $179

Walmart is bundling the Nintendo Wii console with a bonus game for just $179 (typically the console alone costs $200). Shipping is $7 to a home address, but free to a store. The choices for the bonus game include The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Mario Kart. The family-friendly Wii may not match the Sony PlayStation 3 in graphics, but it certainly has its merits in terms of gameplay; several years ago, we looked at how the two systems match up.
