1/11/10 Hot Pic: "Feeling Fall," by Kristin Grant, Canton, New York
Kristin says: "I used a Nikon D40 to take this photo as the sun was going down in a pasture. I used Picasa to crop the photo and accentuate the flower. Then, in Photoshop CS3, I used a gradient layer to darken the image a bit."
1/18/10 Hot Pic: "Infinite Skink," by Eric Barnhill, DeBary, Florida
Eric writes: "I called this photo 'Infinite Skink' because this Southeastern Five Lined Skink's tail looks like it is forming an infinity symbol. I took it in my front yard with my Sony DSC-H9."
1/25/10 Hot Pic: "Day Gecko," by George Brims, Newbury Park, California
George writes: "This is a Gold Dust Day Gecko, which I photographed in Kona, Hawaii, using an HP 945 in macro mode."
1/4/10 Runner-Up: "Bouquet" by Marion Roman, Salem, Oregon
Marion says: "Using my Canon 50D, I had the bride and groom place their hands on the bouquet. I edited the photo as black and white and highlighted the flowers using Adobe Photoshop CS4."
1/11/10 Runner-Up: "Greet the Morning" by Karen Booth, Pewaukee, Wisconsin
Karen took this photo with a Canon T1i.
1/18/10 Runner-Up: "Galaxy" by Ken Deitcher, Albany, New York
Ken writes: "I took this photo with the camera on the floor in a dark room using a cable release with the camera set on bulb. I assembled several colored gels and suspended a small flashlight over the camera, which I swung over the camera and re-directed every 30 seconds with a change in filters."
1/25/10 Runner-Up: "Stairway to Heaven," by Clint Simmons, Silverton, Oregon
Clint writes: "I was on a road trip to Seattle, and this was the very first image I snapped when I arrived. The sun came through the clouds at just that moment, and I took what I thought was the most striking picture of the day. My camera is an Olympus SP570UZ."
