'iPhone 5 Cases' Suggest Redesigned Handset

The next-generation iPhone could be thinner than its predecessor, have a flat back and curved edges, if some cases spotted online are anything to go by.

Spotted by Apple Insider, the cases are available from Shenzhen L&Y Technology in China and are claimed to be for the iPhone 5.

The cases would suggest that the iPhone 5 will be thinner than the iPhone 4, and though it will have a flat back like its predecessor, will have curved edges unlike the iPhone 4 but similar to previous generations of the iPhone.

The mute switch would appear to have moved to the right-hand side of the iPhone, if the cases are accurate. The volume adjustment buttons have reverted to the design of the earlier iPhones, seemingly.

Rumors that the next-generation iPhone would be a major departure from the iPhone 4 have been in abundance for many months now, though there have also been plenty of rumors suggesting that it would closely resemble the iPhone 4. Whichever is true, it is widely believed that we won't have long to wait until we find out, with an early October launch thought to be on the cards.

It was also reported this week that Foxconn is ramping up production of the new handset to 150,000 units a day.
