Casemod Turns Your PC Into Modernist Architecture; Lets Bloggers Work 'Modernist' Into Headlines

Although it's cool and fun to be able to spruce up your PC's casing to your own tastes, sometimes the result is, well, a little weird and tacky. Fortunately, some get their inspiration from art and culture, just like Jeffrey Stephenson and his Usonian casemod.

The casemod is based around the strong linear designs of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright--most notably his creations Irving House, Coonley Playhouse, Bachman-Wilson House, and Fallingwater. Each side of his wooden casemod represents a paricular style of the buildings: even the back where the fan grills are placed is designed to look like a window in the Coonely Playhouse.

Jeffrey created the mod from the base of a Coolermaster 690 II Advanced computer case, embellishing it with glass, mahogany, and teak materials. Inside the mod sits two case fans, an unlocked Intel Core i7-875K processor, a 2TB Seagate hard drive and 256GB Crucial C300 SSD, and an ATI 5750 low-profile video card.

The Usonian looks awesome, but with all the wood effect added onto the PC case as well as the internals, it must surely weigh a fair bit. For those interested in checking out the Usonian casemod with their own eyes, it will be on display at the Coolermasters 2011 Case Mod Contest until the end of the month.
