Telepresence Robot Orders Pastry; Singularity Must Really Be Near

If you had a personal robot equiped with a camera that you could access via a simple web browser, what would you do with it? According to a post on Engadget, you send it to the local coffee shop to pick up a scone. Seriously.

Now, I don’t know about you, but if I spent thousands of dollars on a robot I could drive around via the internet, I can think of better places to send it than a coffee shop. The risks associated with something of that nature would make me have a heart attack as soon as it rolled out the door.

Anybots have a really cool premise, don’t get me wrong. I’d love to own one. I’m not sure what I’d do with it (not send it grocery shopping), and I’m sure my coworkers would hate me for it, but I can picture it sitting behind my desk to be there when I’m not. Which would be always, mind, if I owned one. But other than that, what do you think the usefulness of such a thing would be? Let me know in the comments.
