Google Android Phones to Get PlayStation Games Store
Smartphones and tablet PCs running Google Android 2.3 and above are to be given access to a PlayStation Store, as well as the 'PlayStation Suite.' This means Android phone users will be able to play PlayStation One and 'PlayStation quality' games, according to Sony.
Sony has yet to give further details of launch dates or pricing, but at its launch even for the next generation PlayStation Portable 2 -- aka the Next Generation Portable -- in Tokyo last week it said that some PlayStation One titles will be released soon as part of the PlayStation Store for Android.
Games developed for distribution to Android phones via the PlayStation Suite will be compatible with the Next Generation Portable. This is a departure for Sony, suggesting that the Android move is at least in part intended to create a bigger market to motivate developers to create games.
The upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, dubbed the PlayStation Phone, and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc are expected to run Google Android 2.3.
