Video: Is it the Playstation Phone?
Android fans were all a-flutter yesterday after a leaked video of a device purported to be the Playstation Phone appeared on Techblog.gr (the video is embedded below). I don't read Greek and Google Translate barely does, but from what I can make out, the phone is called the Sony Ericcson Z1 and it was running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. (I'm still hearing the Gingerbread moniker sometimes ascribed to Android 3.0 but as far as I can ascertain, 3.0 is Honeycomb.) It has a 4" screen and an 8 megapixel camera, and Sony is planning its own app store for the device (and in this case I think a dedicated app store makes sense).
Google Translate then came up with this curious line: "It seemed to shoot some tanks while we were returning the camera around them by close-ups to make." I can't figure that line out at all. Anyone out there read Greek?
Now all that said, the video doesn't really show very much. Specifically we don't see the slider with the gaming controls that are going to differentiate this phone from other Android models. Yes, the case has the same rounded shape and slightly curved hardware buttons that we saw in leaked images earlier this year. I'm just confused by the video being titled "[spy video]" while the author seems to be saying he had hands-on experience with it. The generally lousy quality of the video suggests that it was filmed on the sly, and obviously if the person holding the phone wanted to show it off, he'd do a better job of it.
Perhaps the blogger was given some hands-on time but not approval to film it, but he did so anyway. (Wouldn't the guys holding the phones notice him filming?) In the end I honestly don't know what to think, but I thought it was worth sharing the video so you can all make up your own minds. Is this really proof that the Playstation Phone exists?
