A flurry of leaks all but confirms supersized Lumia 1520 Windows Phone coming soon
The fact that Nokia will release a supersized Windows Phone to compete with the embiggened Galaxy Notes and HTC One Maxes of the world is one of the worst-kept secrets in tech. And now, according to a report from Endgadget, it seems Nokia itself has all but confirmed the Lumia 1520’s existence with a post on the company’s official Chinese marketplace.
The leak doesn’t reveal anything new spec-wise. However, if the posting is indeed legit, the phone will boast a six-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 800 CPU, and beefy 20-megaxpixel PureView camera (which we should note is a step down from the Lumia 1020’s spectacular 41 megapixel camera). According to the Chinese listing, the phone will be available for 4999 Yuan (or about $819), but don’t try to determine the phone’s cost in the U.S. based on foreign prices.
It’s actually a bit of a disappointment that Nokia would step-down the camera on its 6-inch phone. The 1020’s truly impressive phone was a real selling point that could separate this Windows Phone from the mobile pack. The camera may have been even more impressive with the 1520’s expansive display.
In addition to the Nokia posting, the typically-reliable @Evleaks published a new image of the Nokia 1520 alongside a “Treasure Tag” dongle that uses NFC and Bluetooth technology to help you locate objects like keys or handbags (or as the mock-up below shows, one can use it to locate “My Bike”).
The flurry of leaks comes as Nokia gets ready to hold its Nokia World press event in Abu Dhabi tomorrow. Check in with TechHive for all the details as they unfold. Surely, we’ll have something for you tomorrow.
