Verizon graciously leaves unlimited data intact for those affected by software glitch
Good news is in store for several Verizon Wireless subscribers. The carrier announced that it will continue to honor unlimited data for customers who upgraded their phones last weekend while it was experiencing a software glitch.
The glitch allowed veteran Verizon customers to upgrade their old phones without forfeiting their existing unlimited data plans, despite the fact that Verizon had put the kibosh on those plans earlier this year. Apparently, customers were also able to switch over to Verizon's 6GB for $30 plan—usually limited to Verizon Edge customers—without having to actually commit to Edge.
Droid-Life reported on the glitch, writing that it had heard from a couple of readers that they had been able to hold on to their unlimited data. Verizon later sent the following statement to the site:
Over the past weekend, there was a software issue involving some orders for customers seeking to upgrade their devices. A number of customers who were upgrading devices were able to maintain an unlimited monthly data feature while paying a subsidized price.
Verizon Wireless will honor those orders that were approved this past weekend, allowing those customers to retain their unlimited plans for the duration of their contract and receive their new device.
Verizon Wireless corrected this software issue today (9/30). The company no longer offers unlimited data plans and customers who want to retain existing unlimited data plans, must pay full retail price for a replacement phone.
