Twitter launches its music service with iTunes, Spotify and Rdio integration
Twitter unveiled a music service Thursday that uses activity on the microblog to help users share and discover new music.
The songs shared via the service are currently sourced from Spotify, iTunes or Rdio; other music service providers could be added later, Twitter said in a blog post announcing the service on Thursday.

Those who want to try the service can log in to the Web app on music.twitter.com. By default, Twitter will play previews from iTunes when users explore music in the app. Spotify and Rdio subscribers can log into their accounts to listen to full tracks that are available in the catalogs, it added.
The web version of the app will be rolling out over the next few hours and iOS users can download an app from the App Store. For the moment, the service will be available for the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The plan is to bring the service to Android and more countries over time, Twitter said.
Users who are interested in songs that have been tweeted by artists and people they follow can navigate to #NowPlaying and listen to those songs, Twitter said. It is also possible to scroll through a chart and tap on a band’s avatar to see their top song, follow them from the chart or visit their profile, Twitter said.
Newly discovered songs can be shared with followers by tapping on the spinning disc in the lower left corner, which will open the player that can be used to share the link to the song on Twitter.
Because people share and discover new songs and albums using Twitter every day, and many of the most-followed accounts on Twitter are musicians’, it was a logical step to open a music service, Twitter said. “This is why artists turn to Twitter first to connect with their fans—and why we wanted to find a way to surface songs people are tweeting about,” Twitter said.
