SBP TV turns to mobile screens for streaming TV

BARCELONA—With a growing number of people cutting the cord on traditional cable plans, the need for alternate ways to watch TV is also on the rise. SPB TV is ready to fill that void.

The company, a European leader in mobile TV streaming technology, took to the show floor at Mobile World Congress with an impressive booth aimed at demonstrating its selection and wide variety of content.

Users just download the SPB TV app onto their mobile device—be it iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8, BlackBerry, or as a web app on your PC—and watch live programming from one of several global channels available. There are between 150 and 200 channels to choose from, including Discovery and local news services, across 17 different languages. This supposedly comes at no cost to the viewers, as SPB TV works directly with networks to gain content rights and advertising deals.

While SPB TV isn’t exactly new—the app launched in 2010—the company did announce new partnerships with international mobile carriers at MWC, as well as an upcoming second screen companion app that provides additional info about the shows that viewers are streaming.
