Droid X Will Get Froyo 'By Early September,' Motorola Says
The Froyo servings just keep on coming. Following this week's rollouts of Android 2.2 for the HTC EVO 4G and the original Motorola Droid, Motorola appears to be preparing for the Droid X to make the leap.
In a message posted at the company's official support forums, a Motorola employee stated that the Droid X would receive the Android 2.2 upgrade "by early September." The employee, identified only as "Matt," said:
Some Droid X users are experiencing an issue using Exchange 2003 email. Though the e-mail is arriving on the Droid X, no notifications are appearing. A fix for this will be included in the upgrade to Android 2.2 scheduled for deployment by early September.
Back at Verizon's Droid X launch event, execs had said the device would see Froyo around the same late-summer date as the original Droid. More recently, alleged leaks from Verizon's computer system pointed to a late August upgrade for the phone. This new information, however, is the closest thing to an official announcement of any specific time frame.
Still up in the air is an exact upgrade date for the HTC Droid Incredible. Recent rumors have suggested the phone could receive Android 2.2 in late July or early August, but that timing has yet to be confirmed.
