All-robot metal band CompressorHead is cast-iron solid
Stand aside, meatbags. Oil is thicker than water. At least, that's what the self-styled "world's heaviest metal band" would like us to think. German Compressorhead is a three-man musical team isn't, well, technically a three-man band—the members are all robots.
Consisting of guitarist "Fingers," bassist "Bones," and a four-armed drummer (Ringo Starr, eat your heart out) named "StickBoy," the mechanical trio apparently draws inspiration from the likes of Rage, Pantera, ACDC and Led Zeppelin.
Governed by a human manager named Ken West, the mechanical trio have been been around in some form of another since 2007. The drummer came first, of course. This was, in turn, followed by the guitarist Fingers, a robot endowed with 78 purpose-built fingers, in 2009. The bassist in 2012.
While not quite on the same level as the likes of the DARPA-funded AlphaDog, it's somewhat awesome that not all robots are amassing to take over our world. If Compressorhead is any indication of things, some of them are just here to rock.
For those lucky enough to be present Down Under, the group will be putting on an appearance at Sydney's Big Day Out. If you're stuck elsewhere, however, well, you can enjoy the practice video we have here.
