This year in YouTube videos (and other stuff you missed)

The end of the year is fast approaching, and in case you missed any of the viral videos from this year, YouTube has put together an interactive month-to-month compendium that includes everything from Gangnam Style to the overly attached girlfriend. But before you check that out, here’s some of the news that you might have missed.

Santa is a speed demon [Popular Science]

It’s a good thing Santa (kids, stop reading here) isn’t real, because if he would be a terrible role model with his mad speeding. Larry Silverberg, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University, recently calculated the ludicrous logistics behind delivering a present to every child in the world. According to Larry’s calculations, Santa would need to cover 122 million miles in 24 hours at an average speed of 5,083,000mph. Those would have to be some fast reindeer.

The video pretty much sums up the effect, and now I know the secret behind Brad Garrett’s impossibly deep voice.
