Star Wars is, for obvious reasons, a perennial favorite in this here parts. But while we've covered a whole bunch of things inspired by the franchise, this R2-D2 PC casemod might be one of the finest tributes to the series we've seen yet.

Though incapable of moving of its own volition, this R2-D2 casemod makes up for its inadequacies in different ways. For one, it's a full-sized replica of the world-famous droid. Constructed from wood, cardboard, ceiling mirrors purchased from eBay, and Christmas tree lights modified to run off a 24-volt electrical system, the project took the creator a full six months to complete. Still, that doesn't make it any less awesome.

According to the PodPad Studios Instructables page, the R2-D2 in question has only the most basic specifications, but it's a fully functional machine. It also has a 5-inch screen and is built around an Intel Pentium 4 CPU. built into the things. On top of all that, it looks like the periscope and dome are both radio control-friendly.

This isn't the only bot our intrepid modder has constructed, either. Other projects include a full-scale replica of Dr Who's Dalek Caan—one complete with a fully animatronic mutant, among other incredibly nifty stuff. In fact, you owe it to yourself to check the creators' website.
