iPhone 5 meets 5 lasers (and other things we didn’t cover)

Gibbs Sports Amphibians Inc.

It's time to sift through the Web once again to find some interesting tech giblets. On today’s edition of GeekBytes, prepare to probably freak out. Unless you already preordered a Quadski, that is, in which case I am green with envy.

The Quadski might be the coolest vehicle ever [Gibbs Sports]

The idea of having your own Transformer is less attractive than ever after Michael Bay’s theatrical treatment of the lovable cartoon robots, but the Quadski might make transforming vehicles cool again. The Quadski is a hybrid of an amphibious jet ski and a land-based all-terrain vehicle. According to the manufacturer’s website, it can go up to 45 miles per hour on both land and sea, and can transition between the two in four seconds flat. So if you happen to have the $40,000 lying around to preorder this beauty, please promise me a ride when you swing by my house. [via TechCrunch]

iCade 8-Bitty brings classic controller to iOS [Wired]

Last year, Ion Audio and ThinkGeek released a portable arcade cabinet for use with the iPad. It was called the iCade, and although it served a rather niche market, the list of supported games continues to grow.

Now the pairing has teamed up once again to bring us 8-Bitty, a Bluetooth controller for iOS and Android devices that closely resembles an NES controller. The controller costs $30 and has 8 buttons: 4 face buttons, select, start, and 2 shoulder buttons. Unfortunately, even though the iCade library has grown, there are still a very limited number of games that support iCade products. If you find yourself still gravitating toward those games though, the 8-Bitty might be worth picking up.

5 strong lasers, 1 helpless iPhone [YouTube]

Yesterday we watched an iPhone get blended. Today, we are going to watch five 1.25-watt lasers shine directly on to an iPhone’s screen. Although the smartphone survives the initial attack by these ruthless laser-wielders, it is no match for theWicked Lasers Torch. Poor iPhone. [via OhGizmo!]
