Brooklyn-based hackers hope to create their own unique community. If built, Hackert0wn will be the place for like-minded individuals to hang out, complete with offices, retail shops stocking geeky goods and even sleeping pods—or so the hackers hope, anyway. The project is looking for $1.5 million in order to get started.

Wooden car lands creators in trouble with the law [Hack-A-Day]

Two avid tinkering teenagers were pulled over by police for driving their handmade wooden car out on the open road. Their DIY vehicle, which isn’t classed as street legal, is made up of a steel frame, a dirt bike engine, and a wooden body. The vehicle uses an Arduino board to add indicator turn signals, but it didn't have a speedometer. Perhaps it's back to the drawing board for the Dutch duo?

A pedometer for dogs [Tech-On]

Gadgets shouldn’t be just for humans, according to Fujitsu. The company plans to introduce a pedometer for dogs later this year, complete with its own Web-based service. The doggy device, which made its debut at CEATEC as the "Wandant," should cost around $120 and it'll attach to your dog's in order to track your pooch’s movements. Oh, and Fujitsu was clear to point out this pedometer is not for kittehs.
