If the last CES was any indication, regular HDTVs are out and "smart" ones are in. But if you still want to hold on to your pretty-looking not-so-smart HDTV set, you could go for FAVI’s $50 SmartStick, which turns any HDMI-equipped screen into an Android-powered display.

The FAVI SmartStick runs Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android, and it comes with 4GBs of on-board storage as well as built in Wi-Fi. As Endgadget relays, the FAVI stick comes ready to stream media from Pandora, Netflix, Hulu and YouTube.

Since it’s running Jelly Bean, the SmartStick can run a full-fledged Web browser and it has full access to apps on the Google Play store. We haven't played with the SmartStick, but so far it sounds like a good middle ground between the completely hackable Raspberry Pi and the Roku Steaming Stick that’s only good for streaming.

The FAVI SmartStick is due to arrive on October 30th for those who preorder the $50 stick now. If you want to double the storage to 8GB, it’ll be $79; there’s also a mini wireless keyboard and touchpad mouse for $39.
