Updates to iOS, Android Facebook apps offer plenty to like
Now you can “Like” your friends’ baby photos more speedily than ever before. Facebook has issued updates to both its iOS and Android apps.
On Thursday, the company announced that it had rewritten its Facebook app for iPhone and iPad from the ground-up, making it twice as fast to launch the app, scroll through the news feed, and view photos. In a press release, the company says that the newly smoother scrolling in version 5.0 of its iOS app makes “stories appear faster than ever.”
Previously, the Facebook app for iOS had been decried as occasionally sluggish, sometimes showing a ceaseless spinner and failing to load any content at all.
Android users scored a Facebook app update of their own, too. Its new features include the ability to create events, a faster uploading flow for sharing new photos, and the ability to include photos and emoji characters in messages. The new photo upload flow lets you select multiple photos at once to upload in a batch.
iOS users can still only lust after Facebook for Android’s ability to create events with location and attendee details; Facebook 5.0 still lacks those features.
Both app updates are free. The Facebook app for iOS requires iOS 4.3 or later; Android requirements vary by device.
