Watch the 2012 Vimeo Award winners online
There are worse ways to spend your weekend than watching award-winning short films in your browser. Thanks to the 2012 Vimeo Awards, you can pray for rain and spend this weekend doing just that.
The second Vimeo Awards show in history took place at New York's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts on June 7. It's a not-quite-annual awards show; the previous Vimeo Awards presentation took place 18 months ago, in 2010. If you couldn't make it to either of those shows, don't worry. The good thing about awards shows presented by video-sharing sites is that all the winning videos are posted online.
For this year's awards, an all-star group of judges that included actor James Franco, director Edward Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), and comedian Aziz Ansari picked through more than 14,500 entries in 13 award categories. Each category winner was awarded a $5,000 grant toward their next film project, and the Grand Prize winner--which went to the Everynone team for its film Symmetry--received a $25,000 grant. (You can view Everynone's acceptance speech on Vimeo here.)
The official 2012 Vimeo Awards page has a list of all the winning videos and allows you to watch each one. Here are a few of the winning videos that my eyeballs enjoyed the most.
