Software Gems and Digital Cameras

The Season of Stuff is underway and because it is, we devote this episode of the Macworld Podcast to items that are nice to get and give. Specifically, we focus on Mac Gems--inexpensive applications you and others will enjoy--and digital cameras.

In our first interview I speak with Macworld senior editor Dan Frakes, who recaps some suggestions from his recent Gems I'm Thankful For column. I attempt to corner him with the Desert Island question, but he adroitly answers it.

After a word from Macworld Superguides, senior contributor Ben Long and I take on digital cameras--examining what you should look for in gifts for your favorite photographer (who could easily be you).

Ben and I talked about Micro Four Thirds cameras, one of which is Panasonic's Lumix DMC-GF1, which Ben reviewed favorably. You can read more about these cameras on Ben's site, Complete Digital Photography. Specifically, take a look at Should You Buy an Olympus E-P1 or Panasonic GF1. And the fifth edition of his Complete Digital Photography book really is quite good. It too is a great gift.
