RIM Opens App World for BlackBerrys

Research in Motion has opened its App World, an on-device application store for BlackBerrys. Many of the apps are free, while most cost less than $10 dollars; users can pay for applications via PayPal. While device makers like RIM have long fostered developer communities that build apps for devices, this new store is in direct competition with the Apple iPhone App Store, which popularized the idea of buying applications directly from a handset.
